it's all about codes

these have been some of my closest companions in the past few days: main.cpp stats.h stats.cpp and philosophy of knowledge paper between that, class, work, eat, sleep, and logic, i have done nothing else. i’m tired. goodnight. official philosophy day

it’s late but what the heck. i had a very eventful day, filled with unordinary things. first, i had greek, which was not unordinary. but, while i was in class i did still a cherry yogurt and an apple pastry, mmm. then i went to the middle of the quad and read for an hour. what did i read? the proofs for the soundness and completeness of first-order logic. it’s completely insane. i’ve never done either of these things before, so they count as unordinary. ...

post-performance euphoria

my show was awesome. i played better than i ever have before in a show, and it felt so good to give what i thought was an accurate representation of my art to the people who were there. and there weren’t many of them, by any means–i think it was the least well-attended of any of my shows, as well as the least well-attended show of the evening. in talking this over with dan, we decided that it was because i didn’t start till 11pm (people at stanford don’t understand the whole theory behind headlining and night shows and what have you). ...

domain name switch

ok folks, this is it: i’m changing the nameservers for jonathanlipps.com. i don’t know exactly what this will do–maybe nothing will change. or maybe this site will go down for 2 days. once again, if you can’t access almostthere.jonathanlipps.com, the real address for this site is http://www.stanford.edu/~jon832/almostthere after the domain switch, however, i will have a true domain and will not be hosting my site on stanford’s servers anymore. when that happens i will put a link to the new page on this blog. the blog will then continue at the other site, and not this one. so stay tuned! ...

i wish i had control

the pedro the lion show, at slim’s in SF, was incredible. david played all the songs off the upcoming release control, in song order. i liked each of the 10 songs so much, and completely rocked out to at least half of them. david was in top form….as witty as i’ve ever seen him. as humble, as endearing, as huggable (yes, someone asked him for a hug and he hopped down from the stage and gave the guy a hug after the show), as independent, as worshipful, as cussword-happy as ever. ...

rainfall: monologue

i’m tired and hungry and my contacts suck. today was a good day, but it was a day that i felt connected to me very loosely; as though if i didn’t put all my energy into not falling off, i would spiral down into nothingness. what the nothingness is exactly is sort of troubling, but as you would guess, it’s mostly just that–nothing. no good, no bad. smooth, without a wrinkle of life. ...

alpha levels check!

for those of you who couldn’t guess, the last entry was fiction. allegory, even. today rocked pretty hard. i’d even give it a rock and a half, for kicks. mostly boring usual stuff you don’t care about. i did go to the wall finally, after 2 weeks. i was pretty weak, but they had some new routes up and i had fun trying to crack a few. i did talk to emily a lot, i did hang out with my friend chris for a while. ...

out beyond the dunes

my body lay in the sand, white and gaunt and all bones, like a bleached skeleton of some prehistoric animal. i was dry and desiccated. my stomach was shrunk to nothing, and my tongue so swollen from heat and thirst that i could barely breathe, much less drink. not that there was anything to drink in the desert. how did i end up here?, i asked myself. i used the last of my energy to turn around and look at my footsteps. they trailed off west, as far as my cracked and sun-blinded eyes could see. no sign of the City. no blue lakes and tall white buildings. no gleam from adamantine roads or piercing towers. nothing but sand and heat. ...
