banality

the great battle in the world [and my soul] these days is between joy and cynicism. the face of evil i see is not hate, anger, or death: it is passive, sarcastic, and useless, with lips twisted in a knowing sneer.

the summerness of summer

summer fell upon me like an unexpected kiss. mmmm, it’s good to be done. on friday morning, i woke up at 8:20, rolled out of bed and on to my bike (it was waiting beneath my bed like a trusty steed). i was seated in the room for my philosophy 102 examination by 8:30. at roughly 8:50am, i left the room after stamping my seal on the completed exam. i was sound asleep by 9:05. ...

need sleepy

the all-nighter went well. i got my paper and my spanish presentation done, and both of them turned out acceptably, i hope. unfortunately i wasn’t able to sleep at all on wednesday, because after class i worked on finishing up my new song so i could play it at the coho. i also learned pedro’s “options” to cover. the show itself didn’t go that well…i felt…tired. and it came out in the first 2 or 3 songs. i scrapped “options” after i sucked on the first few lines. plus we were running sound out of another guy’s system, which was very big and so it made me a little nervous. there were quite a few people there too. oh well. it made me resolve to actually practice my songs, because they are rather hard for me to play sometimes and i need to have them down before i do shows. i forget my lyrics a lot too. ah well, it was fun. i ran sound for mikey’s band ‘midget mosaic’. they played a 1.5hr set, so i was really tired by the end. they had me come up on one of their last songs and play lead guitar, and that was cool of them; they’re neat guys. ...

bring it on

right now it’s 2am, and i’m in the tresidder lair for the first time. why? the story: for weeks, now, no–months, even–i’ve known that i had a 10 page paper due tomorrow [today], june 5th. and yet, miraculously, i avoided even thinking about it until roughly 6 hours ago. at that point, i thought long and hard about which topic i might want to do, and then decided to play return to castle wolfenstein, a new, wonderful, computer game where you run around and shoot nazis, cyborg monsters, and even the undead. fun, strategy, and carnage, for a few hours. eventually i picked the topic with the least number of letters in the prompt, and started working. pretty soon i had my introductory paragraph, so i played some more computer games. i realized immediately, that at that rate, there were not enough hours left in which to finish the paper before it was due. ah well–i keep wanting adventure, and now i’ve got it. so here i am–pulling my first (second? third?) all-nighter of the quarter. ...

griffin 302 here we come

my earlier thoughts notwithstanding, today was a beautiful day. you might recall earlier that my draw group got a 1320 for next year’s housing draw. well, miraculously, we got into our first choice–suites. and the miracles don’t stop there–at in-house draw tonight we pulled Griffin 302–a sweet corner room overlooking the golf course, the volleyball courts, and lake lag. we checked out the room after the draw and talked to the guys who are living there this year. they were quite friendly, as well as quite high, but we got out of them that their draw number last year was around 400. and we snagged their room at almost 1000 higher. ...

95 theses (i.e. ways i suck)

i’ve been thinking recently about all the things that are wrong with me. well, that’s not precisely true–i couldn’t possibly think about all of them at once. so i’ve been thinking about a number of them. and the more i think about them, the more they really piss me off. some of them are simply dumb habits that elude breaking. some of them are so petty i’m glad i hide them behind my veneer of cynicism. or do i? i’m sure they show through to those people who are discerning about such things. ...
